Introduction

PopMedNet version 6.7 is planned update to the PopMedNet distributed query tool. A full list of new features and bug fixes can be found here.

Enhancements

UpdateDescription
Increased the file size for uploads and downloads to 2GBA user can successfully upload and download files on the web portal and DataMart Client up to 2 GB in size for all QE requests.  Previously, a poor internet connection would cause an error when uploading files of approximately 400 MB or larger.  We now support the upload and download of any file up to 2GB
Enhanced Investigators have the ability to change a DataMart routing from "Hold" to "Cancelled"

In addition to the current ability to modify routing statuses, a user with the correct permissions should be able to change an individual routing status directly from "Hold" to "Cancelled".

When routing statuses are switched from "Hold" to "Cancelled", any applicable users who have the DataMart Routing Status notification set appropriately will still receive a notification saying the routing(s) that apply to them were changed to "Cancelled". Additionally, if a request status is changed to "Complete" through this method of cancelling routings, then any applicable users with the Request Status Changed notification will still receive them.

Improvements to User Interface

The existing 'Select All'/'Unselect All' buttons on the Selected DataMarts panel for QE Requests in the "New Request" step & when adding DataMarts to a Submitted request have been replaced with the same 'Select All'/'Unselect All' check-boxes that were added in PMN version 6.6 to provide uniformity in the UI across different screens.

Bug Fixes

UpdateDescription
The column order of summary table results do not match between the Query Tool and DMC

In diagnosis and procedure code queries , the "event" and "members" columns were not displayed in the same order in the query tool and DataMart client. For pharmacy dispensing generic name and drug class queries, the "days supply" and "members" columns were not displayed in the same order. These errors have been corrected and all result columns appear in the same order across the query tool and DMC.

The behavior of the breadcrumb trail on the requests page of the query tool is not consistent with the other pages

The Home link on the breadcrumb trail on the Requests page was not clickable. This has been corrected, users can now click on the home link on the breadcrumb trail on the requests page.
Certain request statuses were mislabeled in request metadata search results Some requests with a status of "awaiting request approval" would appear to have a status of submitted when exported as part of the results of a metadata search request. This has been corrected, all request statuses are accurate when metadata search results are exported.
Column sorting remained even after it was cleared and the user logged out and logged back inThis has been corrected. Once a user clears any sorting they applied to any column in the query tool, the sorting will not be re a
Summary Table Observation Period selection boxes provided a dropdown of available date years

A dropdown of available years appeared as the observation period selection boxes were populated via a back end database table in PopMedNet that contained the available date ranges for each data partner. That table is no longer needed or updated.

Therefore, the lookup that presented a range of available years has been removed. Observation period selection boxes will now accept any 4 digit numeric string and will not suggest a range of years.

Unable to filter the user list by the "active/inactive columnThis has been fixed, users with appropriate permission can now filter the user list by active or inactive.
Request results were downloaded in xls format when excel was selected as the export format. This produced an error for users who have excel 2007 or later installed, but did not prevent the file from opening. Results now export in xlsx format when excel is selected as the export format, so no error should appear for users with excel 2007 or later.
Cancel button removed from the upload results dialogue in the DataMart client.

After clicking upload results in the DataMart client, a loading bar is presented. This loading bar previously had a cancel button next to it. Occasionally, data partners would click this cancel button, but results had already been uploaded. They would later upload results again, as the DataMart did not record that the request was complete even though results were uploaded to the query tool. This caused results to be uploaded twice and added together in a single result file for that request for that data partner. The cancel button has been removed to prevent this scenario.

Data partners still have the ability to review and reject a request before uploading results, the cancel button was duplicative of these functions.

*Cancel button removed in DataMart client 6.7 +*

Unable to delete draft requests in the query tool.Observation period is a required field in any summary table request. Previously, when a draft request was created and saved without an observation period, it could not be deleted. The system expected all required fields even when attempting a deletion. This validation has been corrected so a draft request can be deleted without an observation period.
PCORnet MDQ Fixes
  • The 'Age as of the request submission date' calculation has been corrected
  • Investigators can no longer submit a MDQ that has a blank observation term.  Previously, a query with a blank observation period could be submitted, and if a DataMart tried to run the query, an error would occur.  The fix now alerts the Investigator to the blank term and will not allow the query to be submitted until at least one date (start date and/or end date) is entered in the term
Question Engine File Distribution only has the ability to view results on an individual basisWhen viewing results for a query, the Investigator has the option to view results in aggregate (across all DataMart responses in the request) or in individual view (each DataMart's results on its own).   For MDQs it makes sense to have both options, but in the case of File Distribution requests, viewing the results in aggregate is not possible.  We have removed the option to view File Distribution results in aggregate to avoid confusion

Known Issues

IssueWorkaround

Some dropdown menu items are hidden behind the breadcrumb trail on the requests page as shown in the image below. This error does not occur on any other pages in the query tool.

A fix is scheduled for the next release, (PMN 6.7.1)

All requests can be accessed from the home page.

The requests page can still be used, but users may experience unreliable performance of the request dropdown menu.

Auto-upload from multiple DataMart Clients within a single DataMartIf a single DataMart has multiple DataMart Clients set to auto-upload, it may cause two result sets to be uploaded. It is advised to only use a single primary DataMart Administrator at a time for each DataMart to avoid this issue until it is fixed.
Response Detail Web Portal tab resizing

In Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Edge, the Response Detail tab for Question Engine-based requests may occasionally not resize properly to accommodate viewing a large number of DataMart responses at once. This will prevent the user from being able to view results directly on the PMN Web Portal, but it does not prevent the user from downloading results. Two workarounds have been identified:

  • Use Chrome or Safari web browsers when viewing results on the PMN Web Portal. These browsers are not affected by this issue.
  • In Firefox, when the Response Detail window fails to resize, right-click the contents of the Response Detail tab and click This Frame>Reload Frame.
Checking for NULL ADMIT_DATEs in PCORnet Menu-Driven QueriesThe Observation Period term in PCORnet Menu-Driven Queries fails to check that ADMIT_DATEs are not NULL if both minimum and maximum dates are left blank when creating the query. To avoid this, always enter a minimum and/or maximum date when using the Observation Period term in PCORnet Menu-Driven Queries. This is expected to be fixed in PopMedNet 6.7.
Error when double-clicking on a request file in the DataMart ClientWhen a DataMart Administrator opens a new file distribution or modular program request, they must click on that file in order to download it.  In many instances, if the user double-clicks on that file, an error appears and the DataMart Client closes.  to avoid this, all users should single-click on any files for download in the DataMart Client.
Unable to view and export more than 45 responses in Internet Explorer

In the case of requests that have responses from more than 45 DataMarts, the Internet Explorer browser does not support viewing and exporting all of the results.  Internet Explorer has a maximum URL length of 2083 characters which limits Investigators to viewing and exporting no more than approximately 45 responses.

Investigators are encouraged to user either the Firefox or Chrome browsers to view all of the responses for large requests.

Recent changes to the FireFox web browser are not compatible with secure PopMedNet sites

Users will need to use another web browser, such as Chrome or Internet Explorer to access the Query Tool.  This affects the following sites:
