Configuring the DataMart Client

This section describes the installation and setup of the DataMart Client application.

The DataMart Client application allows a DataMart Administrator to view requests, execute requests locally, review the results, and upload the results to the network.

The DataMart Client may connect to multiple networks, multiple DataMarts within those networks, and multiple data sources. A typical data source is a  Postgres database in the pgAdmin application. Other database types, for example SQL Server or an Oracle database, are supported.

The DataMart Client is a .NET/C# Windows desktop application developed which is installed locally on a DataMart Administrator’s desktop or a server environment.  All communications between the DataMart Client application and the Portal use HTTP/SSL/TLS connections to securely transfer requests and results between the desktop application and the Querytool/Portal.

DataMart Client

There are four basic steps to setting up the DataMart Client:

  1. Download and install the DataMart Client.
  2. Configure your network connections.
  3. Configure the DataMart Client to point to your Microsoft Access/relational database management system.

    1. For sites connecting to a database via an ODBC connection: Create an ODBC Data Source Name (DSN) for your database.

Your local computer user account must have administrative privileges to install the DataMart Client.

You do not need to uninstall a prior version of the DataMart client when installing a new, upgraded version of this software, this happens automatically. If for any reason you do need to uninstall the DataMart Client, see Uninstalling the DataMart Client v5.0.
