Version 3 Overview

Users upgrading from version 2 of the PopMedNet software should take note of the following new features. For a more comprehensive list see the PopMedNet Product Roadmap.

Projects

Projects give a Network the ability to manage multiple initiatives from a single portal. A project establishes security policies for composing, reviewing, and executing requests for users and DataMarts assigned to the project. Users, organizations, and DataMarts may be members of more than one project.

Projects may be viewed from the Network tab on the portal.

User Registration

Users may now register for an account via the portal homepage.

Usernames should follow the template of [first initial][last name].

Enhanced User Permissions and Access Controls

With these changes and enhancements, network administrators may now assign multiple roles in one or more projects to a single user. This eliminates the need for users to maintain multiple accounts on a single network if they have multiple roles and/or belong to multiple projects. Users belong to a single organization, but can take on multiple roles through membership in security groups. Membership in a security group grants the user all the rights associated with that security group.

Security groups consist of roles assigned at the organization or project level. For example, in the figure to the right, "Example User" is an Enhanced Investigator in the Demo project and a DataMart Administrator for his/her organization within that Demo project. Note that typically users do not see this view of their user profile and security group membership is typically assigned by a network administrator.

Network Browser

Users may view and navigate between network entities (projects, groups, organizations, DataMarts, users) via a tree control from anywhere within the portal. This allows the user to better understand the hierarchy of the network and more quickly find what they are looking for.

Scheduled Requests

Investigators may /wiki/spaces/DOC/pages/8880284 to be submitted on a recurring basis. Requests may be scheduled for daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly submissions.

Organization and DataMart metadata

Enables a finer level of detail for Organization and DataMart profile pages to give users an understanding of the sites participating in the network and the types of data available.
